2013 Year In Review

With the production of my 2013 Year in Review, I’m reminded just how rapidly time flies by. Alabama’s citizens can be proud of the dedicated public servants who work for the Office of the Attorney General. I continue to enjoy working with the talented lawyers and staff who ensure that Alabama has the finest law firm representing the interests of our citizens. It is with great pride that I present to you a brief overview and a small portion of the accomplishments of this office from the past year.

2013 was an eventful year for the Office of the Attorney General. We implemented several new initiatives related to texting and driving and internet safety, all while continuing traditions such as the annual Law Enforcement Summit. I invite you to learn more inside about these programs and the vital services rendered by my office.

Throughout this year, Alabama stood alongside private citizens, the United States Department of Justice, and the State of Louisiana in a two-part trial to prove the liability and gross negligence of the parties responsible for the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. We also secured a decision that will make Alabama the first state to try its own case for economic damages against BP, a trial for which we are presently preparing. And, as in 2011 and 2012, we utilized our in-house attorneys and resources to handle the litigation, saving the State of Alabama millions of dollars.

Once again, as good stewards for the people’s money and time, the Year In Review 2013 is being published online and in digital format. This method saves the taxpayers thousands of dollars during times of economic hardship and is available to state and local officials, as well as the public, at no cost by accessing

Thank you for this great opportunity to serve the people of the State of Alabama.
